Where Are the District Courts in Chandigarh?
The District Courts, Chandigarh are located in the District Court Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh. The courts shifted from their older Sector 17 building to the current Sector 43 complex in January 2013. A modern multi-level parking facility was added to the complex in 2025, making access significantly easier for litigants and advocates.
The complex is near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Sector 43 — easily accessible by bus, auto, or cab from anywhere in the Tricity region.

Working hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Lunch break: 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM)
Public holidays: Courts are closed on gazetted national and regional holidays. A calendar of vacation and holidays is published annually by the Punjab & Haryana High Court at highcourtchd.gov.in.
Filing counters: Generally open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for acceptance of new filings. Urgent applications filed after 12:00 noon may be listed the following working day.
First hearing: After filing, a case is typically listed for its first hearing within 7–30 days depending on the court's docket and the nature of the matter.
How to Check Your Case Status Online
You do not need to visit the court to find out when your case is listed. The eCourts platform provides free, real-time case status for all District Court cases in India:
Option 1 — Website: Visit services.ecourts.gov.in → Select "Chandigarh" → Search by CNR number, case number, party name, or advocate name.
Option 2 — eCourts Mobile App: Download the eCourts Services app (available on Android and iOS) and search by CNR (Case Number Record) — the unique identifier assigned to every case at filing.
Option 3 — SMS: Send your CNR number to 9766899899 to receive case status by SMS.
The CNR number is printed on your case filing receipt and on every order sheet. Keep it safe — it is your fastest way to track your case.

The Court Hierarchy in Chandigarh — Which Court Handles What
Understanding which court has jurisdiction over your type of matter saves time and prevents filing in the wrong forum.

What to Bring on Your First Court Visit
- Original and photocopies of all relevant documents (suit papers, FIR copy, bail order, etc.)
- Photo ID proof (Aadhaar / Passport / Voter ID)

- CNR / case number (printed on the filing receipt your advocate gave you)
- Notebook to record the next date and any directions given by the court
What Litigants Often Get Wrong
Arriving late: Court business begins at 10:00 AM. Matters are called in sequence. If you are not present when your case is called, it may be adjourned or decided against you ex-parte.
Not knowing the court room number: The cause list — the list of cases being heard each day — is posted outside each court room and is available online by 7:00 PM the previous evening on the eCourts platform. Your advocate should confirm the court room before you arrive.
Trying to speak directly to the judge: All communications during a hearing must go through your advocate. Litigants are not permitted to address the court directly unless the judge invites them to do so.
Bringing too many people: Only the parties to the case and their advocates are permitted in the court room during hearings. Family members must wait outside.
